Extension Maintenance Checklist (Week 1–8): Keep Them Flawless + Protect Your Natural Hair
Most extension issues don’t start at the salon—they start at home. This week-by-week checklist helps you prevent tangling, matting, slipping, and breakage so your extensions stay beautiful and your natural hair stays protected.
Week 1: Set the foundation
Avoid heavy oils/serums directly on attachment points.
Brush gently 2x/day (ends → roots) with an extension-safe brush.
Keep heat low and always use heat protectant.
Weeks 2–3: Keep it clean and detangled
Detangle before washing and before bed.
Wash as recommended for your method (ask us if you’re unsure).
Dry thoroughly—especially near the roots/attachments.
Weeks 4–5: Watch for early warning signs
Book a check-in if you notice any of the following:
Tightness or soreness
Excess shedding or tangling at the root
Slipping or visible attachments
Weeks 6–8: Move-up time (don’t push it)
Waiting too long can cause matting and tension. Most clients need a move-up between 4–8 weeks depending on method and growth rate.
Night routine (non-negotiable)
Loose braid or low ponytail
Silk/satin pillowcase or bonnet
Never sleep with wet hair/extensions
